Carlos walked calmly into his morning class.  He placed his backpack down and flopped unenthusiastically into his seat.  He retrieved his textbook and notepad, and made ready for the day.  Admittedly, he didn’t LOVE class; however, he understood that missing a class could be detrimental to his mission, and that wasn't an option.
Punctual as ever, his professor enters and without hesitation says, “Books away class.  This morning is a pop quiz.”  Slightly concerned, Carlos puts away his books while canvasing the class to observe the reaction of the other students.  Naturally, their faces mimicked his own. 

Sure, he (like the rest of the class) is a bit worried; however, he’s attended faithfully and worked hard.  To date, he’s only missed one class and his attendance record far exceeds his peers.

With all books placed away, the teacher then says, “Students, today’s pop quiz will count for 75% of your total grade.  The quiz unfortunately consists of one question only.  Get it right, you have a 100.  Get it wrong and you’ll repeat this entire course.  Any questions?”  As the class remained deafening silent, the professor began to pass out the quiz and said, “These are the test, on my go, you’ll flip the page, answer the question, and leave.  Any questions?”  After another long pause he said, begin.

Carlos slowly flipped over his paper and began reading this question.  However, to his shock, the sole question of the test was on information that he knew nothing of.  He could only conclude that the subject matter must have been derived from the curriculum taught on the only day he missed.  He thought he was doomed.  He became, sad, angry, confused, and angry again.  He felt the question and the testing was very unfair.  After all of his work, how could he still fail? 

​In humility he stood, walked to the professor, and before Carlos could say a word…

Loved the intro to this story series! Great beginning, and the ending leaves us wanting to know more.
