You’d have to be very out of touch with pop culture to have missed the most recent change in the musical expression of Kanye West.
For a while now, Kanye West has been a roller coaster for his fans and devotees of hip-hop culture. He early amassed a “rock star” following, thanks to his witty lyricism, icon production, and a confidence that would not move. He’s responsible for nine studio albums; he has over 20 million in record sales and over 90 million in digital downloads. Kanye has performed with and produced for artists like JAY-Z, Beyoncé, Talib Kweli, the RZA, and even Janet Jackson. He amplified the career of Twista and introduced us to the roster of G.O.O.D. Music. Say what you want about him, but know that his bust in the hip-hop hall of fame is undoubtedly undeniable.

Fact: there are few things in the world that make me as weary as the current state of American politics.
Now, as I say that, it’s important for you to consider who I am and how the American governmental scene has impacted me personally. I am a 38-year-old, black citizen of the US. As a citizen, I have seen a host of disappointments within our government. Everything from the mishandling of several gunned-down black and brown citizens by law-enforcement; the many sentencing inconsistencies within our judicial system for like crimes across the racial divide; the dilapidation of schools in poor neighborhoods versus the opposite, and the professed defense of ‘WHY’ the confederate flag should still fly over any building funded by tax payer dollars in the Lord’s year of 2019. 
"Am I willing to risk all that I have for this message? Would I be willing to stand alone for this message? Or, would I even be willing to lose my life for it?"

I woke up this morning, in a deep pondering about what exactly this blog’s purpose should be. This thought led to prayer, and this prayer led to this. 
“Lord, if there is any reason why I shouldn’t have this conversation, I pray you’ll make it clear. And if I should, I pray you’ll guide my mouth."
So, I’ve been thinking (uh oh) on a subject that I’m not quite sure I’m fully convinced of. In other words, even as of this writing, I’m not 100% sure of exactly where I stand on this issue. However, I’m confident that as I progress further in this writing, I’ll work things out via my prayerfully guided and Spirit-led, typed expression (just a complex way of saying, “Jesus, take the wheel”).
So, with that all of that great pressure on my back, let’s get started.

So, I was talking to a real good friend of mine, and he was sharing with me some of his struggles with sin. As he shared, I remembered being proud of him for his willingness to admit his error. I was honored that he entrusted me with his failings and I was in awe of his maturity and willingness of transparency. 
"However, as I consider the political landscape of our nation, I believe that this race (and races like it) will only cause the American divide to get worse." 
"Here is a fact, your AP will be the person who steps into your most vulnerable place. They will know your success, secrets, and shame. Therefore, making a sound and good decision on who you allow your AP to be, should be the highest priority." 
"I think as the world becomes caught up in a mist of all that it "thinks" is the business of God, we still somehow miss the bold and obvious." 
I’m not attempting to advocate pessimism; however, I know that nothing good comes from living like ministry is supposed be perfect. 
So, here’s the question: if I’m already challenged by my mandatory and very necessary truth, why in the world would I then seek additional and very unnecessary pain, by concerning myself with what EVERYBODY thinks of me? |
