I remember how we made it back home, pulled into the hanger, got off the plane, and started towards the car.
Romans 8:31, “What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?”(ESV)

Selena paused, took a deep breath and continued, “I literally had no idea how in one day, my whole world would come crashing down.  Carlos, In one day, I learned that he was in some very deep trouble.”
She lit the cigarette and took a pull.  She looked low and ashamed.  Carlos didn’t even see it, he was in a trance with her account.

“I remember how he had begun to hang out with a group of sales execs at Grace.  They were some lowlife, no-moral-having guys.  They had disgusting ways about them.  They were womanizers, alcoholics, negligent of their families, addicts, and very, very greedy.”

“Sure, he wasn’t a saint these days either.  Still, I could tell that he warred with being so close to them.  I know him.  I could tell that he felt they weren’t good men.  However, they made great money and to him, in his FIGHT TO WIN, that was important.  He always talked about how he wouldn’t let them change him.  However, (a tear rolled swiftly down her right cheek) he was already changing.  And it was obvious that the root cause of his change was money.  By this time, God was probably in 7th or 8th place in his life, and me and the kids, we’re maybe in 5th and 6th.”

“Strangely, as his attitude and character changed for the worse, his income seemingly increased for the better.”

Tears roll from both eyes.  She wiped them off with the back of her hand, pulled again on the cigarette, and continued.

“I won’t lie, while I was saddened by the man he had become, I was also thankful for the life we had.  We both grew up poor; we had nothing; we came from nothing.   So being able to drive exotic cars and take passport vacations was definitely a treat.  I mean to see my kids, MY KIDS have fun in the Cayman Islands, Maui, and Santorini… that kind of thing does something to a mother.  However, I had no idea the price we were about to pay.”

Selena paused and this time became very emotional.  Carlos reached to console her; however, she held up her hand in a way that all but said ‘don’t.’  Noticing this, he instantly refrained.  She gathered herself emotionally and resumed with the story.

“I remember one day we were returning from vacation on one of the exec’s planes.  We had used this plane a number of times, so it wasn’t out of the ordinary.  We had just had a great time.  I mean, this trip made me almost feel as if we were back to us.  You know?  I remember how we made it back home, pulled into the hanger, got off the plane, and started towards the car.  As the airport staff was placing our luggage in the car, I remembered that my purse was still on the jet.  I didn’t announce where I was going, I just said, I forgot something, and went back to the hanger.  However, when I got back to the plane, I saw him offloading bags that weren’t ours…”
