She grabbed her hygiene bag and walked to the bathroom.  She turned the knob, and it was locked.
She knocked on the door.  Keylah shouted, “it’s locked for a reason!”

“How long you gonna be, Kee?” inquired Tasha.

Keylah replied sharply, “When I’m done!”  Tasha exhaled with frustration and stormed down the hall.  Before she could get a word out, her mother said, “You cannot.”

“You don’t even know my question,” Tasha replied.  Her mother smoothly inquired, “You’re about to ask me to use my bathroom, correct?”

There was a pause.  Tasha said, “But Mama, Kee is in there, and she takes all day.  When I get in there, the hot waters all gone.”  Tasha’s mother shouted, “Keylah Shanell Cobb, I’m going to count to 5 and if you’re not out of that bathroom when I’m done, so help me Jesus…”

Instantly, the door was open.  Out walked Keylah in an oversized robe and a towel wrapped around her head.  She looked Tasha firmly in her eyes, ensured she was out of the view of her mother, and whispered, “snitch.”

Tasha sashayed peaceably towards the bathroom door, and before she walked in, she ripped the towel off Keylah’s head.

Keylah shouted, “MAMA!”  Mrs. Cobb said, “I don’t want to hear it.”, as Tasha closed the door.

She took a shower, brushed & flossed her teeth.  When she walked out, her little brother was on the floor, playing a game on their mother’s phone.

She reached down, took the phone, and signed, “shower, now.”  He signed in return that he had taken one last night.  She signed, “okay, but you don’t smell like it.”  They both smiled, he stood, and went playfully into the bathroom.
