Post #6:  4 Reasons why People Struggle with Change

I can’t stress enough that the Word of God should NEVER change.  However, our approach to life, service, mission, and ministry should remain in constant evolution.

Fact: change is just as essential as it is feared.  Change is feared because the difference is new.  For this reason, on some level, we ALL struggle with change.  However, as times change, we find it unhealthy to refuse change.

I can’t stress enough that the Word of God should NEVER change.  However, our approach to life, service, mission, and ministry should constantly evolve.

Are you ending bad habits?  Are you selfless?  Are you connected to your community?  Are you mission-minded?  Are you focused on evangelism?  Are you honestly fulfilling your mission and vision?  If you answered no to any of these questions, then it’s time for you to incorporate some essential changes.  Of course, change won’t always be easy or received; however, there are some barriers to change that, if you tackle it, would significantly increase your “change success.”

So, what are these barriers?  Today, I’d like to present what I call the change chokers!

  • Hopelessness:  It’s impressive that the very thing that creates the need FOR change; has also become a problem with change.  Nothing is more devastating to any person, place, or organization than hopelessness.  The problem with hopelessness is that it causes you to lose your will to try.  I urge you never to forget that our hope should always be in Jesus.  This is important because faith tells us He is constant and never failing. Therefore, even when it looks like we have no hope, know that to lose hope is to lose Him.
  • Laziness:  Faith without works is dead, and change without works is the same.  Some desire change because the implementation of change almost always means improvement.  However, anything worth having will also require you to work for it.  Thus, if you’re unwilling to work for it, you will continue to lack it.  Family, I know it may be hard for some, but if you want the next level, you must lose your laziness.
  • Fear of Failure:  Fear is a natural part of our human struggle; however, we can’t allow it to alter our focus.  Being led by a fear of failure will most assuredly lead to a guaranteed failure.  This is because the fear of failure can mislead us to quit too early.  I’d urge you to refocus your vision on failure.  Fact: failure is not a complete failure if the failure is used for education.  Fight, fail, focus, and fight again.
  • Cozy in Comfort:  This, I believe, is the most excellent source of anti-change.  Indeed, there can hardly be a more cancerous element within your life or ministry than for the called conqueror to become comfortable in complacency.  This is when we know there needs to be change; however, the road to better will undoubtedly make things different than “the way we’ve always done it.”  When there’s a more significant commitment to what was then what should be, the survival chance of change is less likely.

So, what do you think?  Was this helpful?  What did I miss?  How are you struggling with change?  Which point registered with you the most?  Let me know in the comments below.  Subscribe to the blog, and thanks for your support.
